PRESS RELEASE FIRST CALIFORNIA LAW ENFORCEMENT ASSOCIATION DEDICATED TO
COMBATTING HUMAN TRAFFICKING LAUNCHED STATEWIDE
FEBRUARY 23, 2024 – The California Human Trafficking Investigators and Prosecutors
Association (CalTIPA) announced its official launch as California’s first state-wide law
enforcement association dedicated to combatting human trafficking.
CalTIPA aims to help hold traffickers accountable and ensure justice for victims by strengthening the criminal justice system’s response to human trafficking. Specifically, the association plans to facilitate collaboration among law enforcement members and with community partners, to provide advanced training opportunities to members of law enforcement, and to enhance access to legal expertise on issues pertaining to human trafficking.
While there have been many law enforcement associations designed to assist members with specific types of investigations (narcotics, gangs, homicides, etc…) or bring together members in certain regional areas, there has been no law enforcement association committed exclusively to those on the frontlines of fighting human trafficking. CalTIPA fills this gap. CalTIPA’s Board of Directors is comprised of experienced prosecutors and investigators from around California who have each spent years helping lead the efforts against human trafficking in their own communities.
CalTIPA plans to kick off its training agenda with a 3-day conference in Santa Barbara September 23-25, 2024.
CalTIPA President, Tyson McCoy, commented on the need for such an organization: “As the state with one of the highest rates of human trafficking in the country, CalTIPA was formed to give those on the front lines in the fight against trafficking the tools and training necessary to combat this horrendous crime. Our dedicated members work daily to fight against slavery and exploitation and to secure the most precious right given to any human being, the right to be free.”
